At the brink of the announcement of Biden stepping down from the 2024 presidential race, 40K women jumped on an impromptu Zoom webinar late Sunday evening to discuss plans to support VP Harris as the presidential Democratic Candidate.
Not only did women show up in numbers, but they also put their money where their support lies, raising an impressive 65+ million dollars just hours after the announcement.
If elected, Harris would be the first woman and black woman elected to the White House, a milestone that could reshape history. This act of solidarity in the midst of confusion has proven to be a refreshing glimmer of hope for unity amongst BIPOC women in politics.
The call was moderated by speakers who are heavy hitters in politics and social justice, including Representative Jasmine Crockett, Representative Joyce Beatty, Political Strategist Donna Brazille, Social Justice Jotaka Eaddy, Actress Jennifer Lewis, and Bernice King, the daughter of the late Martin Luther King.
The call was filled with words of encouragement, excitement, and personal testimonies about Harris’s qualifications to become the 47th president of the United States. Black women have been at the forefront of civil rights and political movements for decades, and the support is as expected.
Harris took to Twitter earlier to accept the call to earn and run for this year’s 2025 presidential seat.
“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and his decades of service to our country.
I am honored to have the President’s endorsement, and my intention is to earn and win this nomination.”
