KBN Interview: Pamela D. Smith

Pamela D. Smith has been called an “empowerment queen”  by some and a “prayer warrior” by others. Her passion is to help women increase their prayer life, strengthen their confidence in Christ and gain a greater understanding of His will for their lives.

As an ordained minister, what was your process like in accepting this calling?

The process started with me having dreams that I was on stage speaking to women. Of course, I dismissed it as “just dreams” because I was extremely shy, and lacked confidence at that time. The dreams continued and I started feeling this burden for broken women, especially those who were broken from being teen moms and those who lacked confidence due to some unpleasant experience. I would dream that I was hugging them, handing them tissues, and telling them about Jesus. I started to share these dreams and this burden with others who were in ministry, and they all told me that I had a calling to preach. It was years before I accepted the call. My family and I experienced the traumatic death of my cousin’s husband and when I saw her hurting and the entire city hurting, I knew I could no longer run from what I was being called to. I then went through the order and process of the church and Pastor Terrance Jackson licensed and ordained me in my hometown. Years later I received a license from another church organization, but in 2016 I was first licensed as a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

What inspired your interest in also consulting Christian Authors?

Becoming a Christian Author led to my interest in consulting other Christian Authors. I don’t believe that ministry is narrowed down to the pulpit or a podium. When I came to the understanding that God has not assigned everyone to have the microphone, I embraced the fact that writing is a ministry and I wanted to consult with others on ways they can use their writing as ministry.

Share more on how writing can be a form of ministry:

Writing can be a form of ministry because a book is a tool and resource. Oftentimes, when we give a spoken word it can be instantly rejected. However, when you have a resource to leave with people, they can later go back and read that book. There needs to be something in that book that leads them back to the cross, gives them hope, or provides strength for their life’s journey. Also, whether writing a blog, e-book, physical book, or social media post; this content can reach a wider audience than we can physically.

Any advice to readers who have hesitation about incorporating ministry in the marketplace?

Push past the hesitation because the marketplace needs more Christians. I like to think of the church as the training ground where other believers are empowered and equipped. Ministry is done in the marketplace to save lost souls and bring healing to the brokenhearted. Honestly, the church is full of what we need, but the marketplace is starving for people who live the gospel.

Tell us about your devotional co-author collaboration opportunity and where readers can learn more:

The devotional collaboration is an annual ministry book project where I join other aspiring female writers who want to become authors or publish again without drafting an entire book. This collaboration will bring together women who can use the book to start or grow their ministries or empowerment brands. Those interested can visit www.pameladsmith.net for more information. I would be delighted to collaborate with you.
