What is faith in action? You can talk to people and ask them, “Do you know what faith in action is”? Do you believe God is going to work it out for you?” Most would say, “Yes, I have faith, yes I know what faith in action is”. But in essence, many do not know what “Faith in Action” really means. Just because you say you believe that you have faith does not truly mean it is activated. You forget you must do something too. You must live as you believe. You must stop moping around. You must stop picking the issue back up again and trying to handle it once you supposedly gave it to God at the altar. If you want to see faith in action, then you must believe without seeing. You must have Abraham’s kind of faith and not Thomas’s kind of faith. When you get up off your knees at night, walk out of your prayer closet, and leave that altar at church, your faith in action is believing God heard your cry and will take care of it. You must believe with your spiritual eyes and not your natural eyes. Many people have more faith in man than they do in God. If your supervisor at work tells you that if you continue working these extra hours and being a team player, your promotion is right around the corner you will believe it. And unfortunately, that promotion may never come. But you have faith that if you keep on doing what they ask for on the job you are going to get your promotion. If that significant other tells you they love you but continue to treat you badly, you will still believe them and take them back. You have more faith that they will change than you do in God hearing your cry. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. (KJV) Faith in action is walking around knowing that God is going to answer your prayer. It is knowing that God has your back. When people see you, they see God in everything that you do. You are walking by faith and not by sight. That is faith in action.
Let me give you some examples of faith in action in the Bible.
1. Faith of the Centurion Soldier, Matthew 8:5-17 AMP
5 When he entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, pleading with him, 6 “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, in terrible agony.” 7 He said to him, “Am I to come and heal him?” [b] 8 “Lord,” the centurion replied, “I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9 For I too am a man under authority, having soldiers under my command. [c] I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this!’ and he does it.”10 Hearing this, Jesus was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with so great a faith. 11 I tell you that many will come from east and west to share the banquet[d] with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 12 But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” 13 Then Jesus told the centurion, “Go. As you have believed, let it be done for you.” And his servant was healed that very moment. [e]
The centurion soldier had faith. He put his faith into action. He did not care who saw or heard what he was saying. He knew what Jesus could do. He knew who he was. He had heard of the miracles he had performed. He knew Jesus could heal his servant. Do you realize how important this soldier was? He was a high-ranking official in the military. He had men bowing down to him. He humbled himself and bowed down to Jesus by asking him to heal his servant. But even more important to note is when he said, “Just say the word and my servant will be healed”. He did not have to see Jesus heal him. He had enough faith to believe that if Jesus said it, then it would be done. Faith in action.
2. Woman with the issue of blood, Mark 5:25-34 CSB
25 Now a woman suffering from bleeding for twelve years 26 had endured much under many doctors. She had spent everything she had and was not helped at all. On the contrary, she became worse. 27 Having heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his clothing. 28 For she said, “If I just touch his clothes, I’ll be made well.” 29 Instantly her flow of blood ceased, and she sensed in her body that she was healed of her affliction. 30 Immediately Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched my clothes?” 31 His disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing against you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” 32 But he was looking around to see who had done this. 33 The woman, with fear and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. 34 “Daughter,” he said to her, “your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be healed from your affliction.”
Another example of someone who did not care who was around. She did not care who was listening. She had had this condition for twelve years. She had gone to several doctors, and nothing worked. But she knew deep down in her heart that Jesus could heal her. She knew that if she just touched the hem of His garment she would be healed. She believed. She put her faith into action. Would you have done what this woman did? Would you have defied the law and come out in public in your condition to receive your healing? How many of you are afraid or ashamed to make a move because of what someone may say or do? And because of that, you are missing your blessing. This woman was not afraid. She was not ashamed. She believed. She claimed her healing. Faith in action.
I’m trying to help someone today. You need to put your faith into action. You must walk the talk. You must believe without seeing. You must stop doubting and start believing. It is time to walk in your healing. It is time to break through that stronghold called financial debt. Do you know who your daddy is? It is time to stand up tall and put your faith into action. Here is another example in the Bible to help you.
3. The paralyzed man lowered in through the roof of a house where Jesus was teaching, Luke 5:17-29 CSB
The scripture tells us that Jesus was teaching, and many had come to hear his teaching. On this certain day, some men carried a man who was paralyzed on a stretcher to the place where Jesus was teaching. They could not get through the large crowd, so they decided to go up on the roof and lower the man down through the roof. Seeing their faith, Jesus said your sins are forgiven. The paralyzed man was healed. Now here is this man who was paralyzed, relying on his friends to carry him to Jesus. But then seeing they could not get in because of the crowd, they decided to climb the roof and lower him down into the place where Jesus was. Now let me ask you, how many of you would allow someone to carry you up onto a roof and then lower you down through a hole? I do not think many of you would. Honestly, I think the moment you saw how large the crowd was, and you could not get through, you would probably give up. You would have said, never mind guys, take me back home. How many of us in life get to roadblocks and instead of plowing through them, we give up? You miss your breakthrough because you turned around and went back. This man and the men with him did not give up. They had faith and walked what they believed. They put their faith into action until they had a resolution. And because of their faith, their sins were forgiven, and the man was healed.
There are so many more examples in the Bible about faith. Those same miracles signs and wonders that occurred in the Bible can also occur now in your lives. You just must believe it. Do you know that your Heavenly Father wants to bless you? He wants to give you the desires of your heart. Your daddy is rich, you should not be walking around saying you are broke. He is waiting for you to trust Him. He is waiting for you to take Him at His word. God needs to see your faith in action. When things may look bleak, He does not want you moping around hanging your head. You should be giving Him praise. You should thank Him in advance for your healing. You should be thanking Him in advance for opening up the windows of Heaven and pouring you out a blessing. I know every day is not a sun-shiny day. But you cannot let that overshadow your faith in God. You must remember God has the final say. Your faith is your currency use it. It is time to put your faith into action.
